Lanes of Love: Celebrate Tu B’av at Honey Bowl!

In a land far, far away, women dance in the fields wearing white robes hopeful their mysterious future groom will arrive and choose her. That day is called Tu B’av, known as the Jewish Valentines Day, and in Brooklyn Land, the place to find your beshert, soul mate, this year is Honey Bowl at Brooklyn Bowl.

On Tuesday, July 27, girls (and guys) will bowl, dance, drink and, if all goes accordingly, fall in love. Organizer of the event (one of), Melissa Stonehill, got engaged at her first Tu B’av event and is now bringing good luck love vibes to Honey Bowl for both the “single” and “attached” community alike.

The idea, Stonehill says, is to create a Judaic Cultural music event in a city in America whose Jewish population exceeds that of Jerusalem. The Jewish/Israeli culture has had a lot of impact on NYC culture, especially in music. People should expect a high energy night with high energy bands blasting through the music venue, and down the bowling lanes.

Musical acts for the night include Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra, Pey Dalid, Electro Morocco, Derek James & The Lovely Fools and Derek James. This eclectic line up will satisfy New Orlean, Reggae, Middle-eastern and Buddy Holly music lovers alike.

“Folks just love Brooklyn Bowl and would rather spend their time and money on a gig where they can eat, drink and bowl as well as dance and listen to the bands all at the same time and all for a fraction of the cost of what other producers are charging,” Stonehill says. “We are delivering a really cool social event!”

Other venues, Stonehill says, just don’t have the FUN element build into them. People will hang out far after the bands are done playing. You’ll see the musicians bowling with the fans by the end of the night, she says. “Rock and ROLL! In the literal sense!”

The party is happening thanks to Brooklyn Bowl (of course!) with sponsorship and marketing partners NY Blueprint, Shemspeed and Stonehill-Publicity. Brooklyn Bowl hosted Matzah Bowl last year for the holiday season, and expect the same kind of success for their first Tu B’av event this year.

Tu B’av is the Day of Love, Stonehill says. It symbolizes the purity and essence of our hearts, and true expression of attraction.

So come out and meet your future bride or groom (or just bring the one you’ve already got).
