Lanes of Love: Celebrate Tu B’av at Honey Bowl!

In a land far, far away, women dance in the fields wearing white robes hopeful their mysterious future groom will arrive and choose her. That day is called Tu B’av, known as the Jewish Valentines Day, and in Brooklyn Land, the place to find your beshert, soul mate, this year is Honey Bowl at Brooklyn Bowl.

On Tuesday, July 27, girls (and guys) will bowl, dance, drink and, if all goes accordingly, fall in love. Organizer of the event (one of), Melissa Stonehill, got engaged at her first Tu B’av event and is now bringing good luck love vibes to Honey Bowl for both the “single” and “attached” community alike.

The idea, Stonehill says, is to create a Judaic Cultural music event in a city in America whose Jewish population exceeds that of Jerusalem. The Jewish/Israeli culture has had a lot of impact on NYC culture, especially in music. People should expect a high energy night with high energy bands blasting through the music venue, and down the bowling lanes.

Musical acts for the night include Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra, Pey Dalid, Electro Morocco, Derek James & The Lovely Fools and Derek James. This eclectic line up will satisfy New Orlean, Reggae, Middle-eastern and Buddy Holly music lovers alike.

“Folks just love Brooklyn Bowl and would ...

Pey Dalid in the New York Post and Times

12/28/09

New York Post:

"Matzah bowl: In year’s past on Christmas Eve, Jews regaled in their singledom (after being nudged by pesky bubbes, of course) to attend the infamous Matzoh Ball with the hopes of finding their bashert. Finally, the tribe’s hipsters have spoken and added a much cooler alternative option: the Matzah Bowl, a tribal music fest and holiday party where the only pressure to score will be on the lanes. The fete at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg will feature an array of food, bowling specials and performances from a number of musicians including Matisyahu’s original band, Pey Dalid. Tickets for the 6 p.m. shindig are $12 at brooklynbowl.com."

New York Times:

"The Matzah Bowl, not to be confused with the Matzo Ball, more on that later, will be held at the Brooklyn Bowl beginning at 8:15. The event will feature music from "Bands of the Tribe," including the Israeli rock musicians Days Like Months and Pey Dalid as well as surprise musical guests, and an array of menus from local kosher restaurants."
